Jordan, a division of Nike, Inc., is a premium
brand of men’s and kids’ footwear,
apparel and accessories inspired by the
dynamic legacy, vision and direct involvement
of Michael Jordan. The brand made its debut
in 1997 and has grown into a complete lifestyle
collection of sport, casual and style products.
Jordan is the evolution of Michael’s
intimate association with the product creation
process at Nike, which revolutionized the
industry in 1984 with the introduction of
the signature Air Jordan I – the start
of the Air Jordan franchise. On February
18, 2006, Jordan will introduce the future
of the brand with the Air Jordan XXI during
NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston. As the
leading basketball shoe of all-time, the
Air Jordan continues to set industry firsts
with its quality product design, technical
innovation and packaging presentation.
The Jordan Brand encompasses
the following:
Jordan Basketball –
In addition to Air Jordans, this collection
covers basketball footwear and apparel as
well as a signature head-to-toe collection
for Carmelo Anthony.
Jordan Training –
To address the training and performance
needs of athletes across all sports, this
collection features footwear and apparel
designed for pre- and post-game regimens
and also includes signature product for
Derek Jeter.
Jordan Lifestyle –
Taking its cues from the brand’s basketball
heritage, this collection features athletic-inspired
streetwear, including innovative denim.
A limited selection of women’s apparel
is also available, giving the female Jordan
fan a chance to wear the Jumpman in a sporty
yet sophisticated way.
On the Sports Marketing
front, Jordan drives an on-court performance
statement at the NCAA level with Georgetown
University, University of California Berkeley,
University of North Carolina and North Carolina
A&T men’s basketball programs
donning Jordan uniforms complete with Jordan
footwear.
At the high school level, the nation’s
top seniors come together each April to
play in the Jordan All-American Classic
at the legendary Madison Square Garden.
Many alums have moved on to become hoops
stars either in college basketball or the
NBA.
The athletes that represent the Jordan brand
include Derek Jeter (New York Yankees),
Roy Jones Jr. (Former IBF Light-Heavyweight
and WBA Heavyweight champion), Warren Sapp
(Oakland Raiders), Carmelo Anthony (Denver
Nuggets), Marvin Harrison (Indianapolis
Colts), Terrell Owens (Wide Receiver), Ahman
Green (Green Bay Packers), Jason Taylor

by Michael Jordan himself to carry on his
legacy. Also on Team Jordan is young saxophonist
Mike Phillips (Hidden Beach Recordings),
the only non-athlete signed on by Jordan
to represent the brand head-to-toe.
Jordan remains active in the community with
Jordan Fundamentals, an education grants
program for teachers. Jordan recognizes
educators who, despite challenging situations
and limited resources, strive above and
beyond traditional lesson planning to motivate
and inspire their students. Up to $1 million
is awarded per year (400 grants at $2500
each). Jordan is committed to funding this
program through a portion of its sales proceeds.
To date, the brand has awarded $7 million
to teachers grades K-12 across the country
and will continue providing grants through
2009. |
